Teaching pronunciation

I find teaching pronunciation quite tricky business as I never know whether I should teach the children even the phonetical alphabet. It is not difficult, but kids are usually scared of it, which makes it complicated to teach.

Great technique to teach pronunciation is to use tongue twisters, such as:

The dinosaur is at the door.

Red lorry yellow lorry.

She sells seashells by the seashore.

I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream.

Apart from that, I think it is very nice to sing songs in a classroom to support their pronunciation skills.

Activities

Action songs for very young learners

Baby Shark

Even though there are many activities for VYL, I find this one the easiest and the most entertaining one. I myself attended English classes when I was 4 and we sang action songs there, I absolutely loved them, and I still remember most of them! That is why I decided to cover this activity in my Bank of Ideas.

Before: Watch a video of an action song (there are plenty of them on Youtube) and learn the lyrics as well as the moves.
